A common concern we hear is:
“If you’re fixing the root cause, will I still get relief now?”
The answer is yes.
While every case is different, our care often includes advanced, non-invasive technologies designed to help reduce pain, calm irritated tissues, and support healing — naturally and safely.
No injections.
No drugs.
No surgery.
Relief matters — and we take that seriously.
Many people we see have already tried care — sometimes multiple types — yet the pain keeps returning, shifting, or spreading.
That usually means something important hasn’t been addressed yet.
Most patients who come to us have tried chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, pilates and yoga.
And often, those approaches helped — at least temporarily.
But the pain came back.
Not because those treatments were wrong, but because they were missing one critical piece.

Body in Balance was founded by Dr. Jan Lefkowitz, a chiropractor who spent years working with people in pain — many of whom had already tried multiple forms of care without lasting results.
Through this work, Dr. Lefkowitz began noticing the same pattern again and again:
People could feel better.
They could get aligned.
They could even improve for a while.
But without addressing how the body stabilizes and organizes movement, the pain almost always returned.
That observation led to the development of a different approach — one designed to solve the problem that kept people stuck.

Postural stability is the system of muscles and neurological control that allows your body to hold alignment and distribute stress properly.
When that system isn’t functioning well, joints re-compress, discs remain under strain, nerves stay irritated, and muscles tighten back up — causing pain to return, often worse than before.
This lack of stability is a major driver behind chronic nerve pain, migraines, disc issues, and recurring inflammation.
Alignment alone isn’t enough.
Massage alone isn’t enough.
Passive care alone isn’t enough.
Something essential was missing.

To address this gap, Dr. Lefkowitz developed the MAPS™ Protocol, which stands for:
Movement · Alignment · Posture · Stability
MAPS™ is designed to restore how the body moves, stabilizes, and supports itself — not just how it feels in the moment.
A core part of this approach is a specific home exercise protocol that is taught to our patients:
This is not generic stretching or gym-based strengthening.
It’s a targeted system that gives patients the tools to maintain their improvements on their own, instead of constantly needing to be “fixed.”

Postural stability isn’t simply about making muscles stronger.
Posture and movement are controlled by the nervous system — essentially the brain’s internal “software” that tells the body how to move, stabilize, and protect itself.
When pain has been present for a long time, that software often adapts in unhelpful ways. Even after tissues heal, poor movement and holding patterns can remain.
The exercises used in the MAPS™ approach are designed to retrain these neurological patterns, not just build strength.
That’s why:
We’re not just strengthening muscles — we’re helping the brain change how the body organizes posture and movement.
That neurological reset is what allows relief and stability to finally stick.

When alignment, movement, and postural stability are addressed together, the body often begins to reorganize itself in visible ways.

These changes aren’t merely cosmetic — they reflect improved balance, support, and stress distribution throughout the body.
