Befriending Holiday Hunger: Healthy Holiday Treats & Tips you’ll love!

“He had a broad face, and a little round belly that shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly.”

~’Twas the night before Christmas

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and with the yuletide carols, come bows and bells amongst a string of Holiday parties.  Many of us have fond memories of this time which are deeply rooted at the bottom of a creamy glass of Egg Nog or in the crumbs of a thick slab of moist Fruit cakes past.  Even the beloved image of Santa Claus, the poster boy for the Christmas Season is that of a jolly old man, who we beckon into our hearts and homes and reward with none other than a plate of freshly baked cookies and a tall glass of milk!  Could you imagine the lumps of coal found Christmas morning had that plate been a veggie Sampler?

The average American gains about 9 lbs between Thanksgiving and New Years! Though all of the Holiday Hoopla may mean a full social calendar, bountiful with decadent spreads and opportunities to overindulge, that doesn’t mean you have to sit back and undo that belt buckle just yet! Keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and Blog for some upcoming Recipes and Tips that will keep you just as jolly as old St. Nick, while still fitting in to those pants for the New year!  To get the ball rolling, here’s a recipe for a cup of cozy, a healthier and just as yummy take on Hot Chocolate.  Share the love, spread the cheer!

Health, happiness & love,

Holiday Hot Chocolate

Serves: 2 OR 1 very big Chocolate Lover

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Almond milk: vanilla unsweetened

  • ½ a Packet of Stevia

  • ½ teaspoon  vanilla extract  or mint extract if you’re into Mint Chocolate!

  • A pinch of salt

  • 2 Squares of NibMor Daily Dose of Dark  (Obsessed with this stuff!) https://www.nibmor.com/ecommerce/daily-dose-of-dark.html

  • OR 1/4 cup Dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: A pinch of Cayenne Pepper for a little kick that will make a Mexican Hot Chocolate!

Directions

1) Heat the almond milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until the milk is hot and starting to steam, about 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat.

2) Whisk in the Stevia, vanilla, salt and chocolate, and continue to whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and resembles Willy Wonka’s River.

3) Pour the hot cocoa into 2 of your favorite mugs or one Large one if you’re not in the mood to share!

4)Top each mug with an innocent dollop of whipped cream and dark chocolate shavings if desired.

*Note: For celiac disease or Gluten sensitive , check almond milk label to ensure it’s gluten-free.
