Massage Therapist

Julia

I love working with a team whose philosophies on wellness and client care are totally aligned with mine.

Julia’s deep understanding of both Eastern and Western teachings, and her passion for health and wellness are what makes her such an asset to the BIBC team. As a licensed NYS massage therapist with over five years in professional practice, she brings a wealth of knowledge, training, and healing to the Body In Balance team.

After receiving her BA from Hunter College, Julia went on to earn her AOS (associates degree in occupational studies) from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences.

True wellness requires a holistic lifestyle commitment that includes bodywork, diet, exercise, and mindfulness.

Julia’s approach considers each patient’s unique circumstances and lifestyle, addressing the factors that collectively impact that patient’s condition. She is certified in disciplines like NMT (NeuroMuscular Therapy)—a massage methodology that targets deep layers of muscle and aims to release tension, prevent soft tissue injury, and treat chronic pain—and Gua-Sha—a form of East Asian massage that addresses restrictions in the body with the use of a stone tool. By utilizing these techniques and others to release what’s been stored deep within the muscles, the body can begin to energetically balance itself.

Both within my work and waking life, I am constantly challenged and amazed by the human body.

Julia’s longtime appreciation and exploration of the human body doesn’t end with massage therapy. She also has a background in modern dance and the performing arts, and currently practices yoga and martial arts.

The human body is a glorious vessel through which we experience life—whether that means having a baby, pitching a ball game, singing an opera or writing computer code.

Jennifer brings over 10 years of experience to the Body In Balance team, working as a massage therapist and corporate wellness expert with renowned companies like Bliss, Equinox, OM Yoga, Kinespirit Gyrotonics and Pilates, Google, Inc., Infinite Massage, and Zeel.

Her life path would be forever altered when, in early adulthood, she suffered an arm injury (tendinopathy) that was repeatedly dismissed by medical practicioners for over seven years. After two massages, that pain disappeared. The benefits of that healing went far beyond the realm of her arm. As a trained opera singer, her voice was freer, her notes fuller, and her breath more supported.

The results were incredible. I was so intrigued; I had to know how to do that!

Jennifer went on to pursue massage therapy with passion and vigor, graduating from the Swedish Institute in 2005. She’s since been NYS Licensed, Nationally Board Certified, and is a longtime member of both the American Massage Therapy Association and the NYS Society of Medical Massage Therapists.
She is also currently pursuing a specialization in chronic pain and trauma resolution at the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. This psychobiological approach presents the opportunity to re-engage the motor responses and release the chronic stress patterns associated with an original incident, so that the trauma doesn’t remain a life sentence.

Jennifer was hand-picked to join the BIB team for her extensive experience, expertise, and passion for the healing the human body.

Joining this team was a natural fit. Our goals and beliefs about the human body are perfectly aligned. I love the measured results that we see and the way that we integrate movement, massage, and adjustments to create the “body in balance” and help patients live their greatest lives.

In addition to her passion for patient work, you may have seen Jennifer perform in one of over 15 operas, including classics like La Traviata, La Boheme, Carmen, and Madame Butterfly. She also generously volunteers her massage skills for organizations and events like Safe Horizons, the Lesbian Cancer Initiative, NY Presbyterian Hospital, and the NYC Marathon and Half Marathon, respectively.
